Thexar-VI: Khal-Vex-El — Sha-El 03: Xha-Ven Khal-sha — Communication: The Biosphere Network

"Electricity is a crude, primitive way to transmit information. Thousands of years of evolution created the perfect network — mycelium. We simply learned to speak its language." — First Keeper of the Network, +2 800 Y.E.

Ruun-ak rass: → rhu [Thexar-VI, Sha-El 01, "Thel-ak Khal-vex"] Mor-ven: Xha-Ven is a biosphere communication network linking grown fibres and living nodes to optical transmitters. The biological layer maintains and repairs the transmission medium; information is carried by signals travelling through it at finite speed.

An optical communication node

3.1 Living Network (Xha-Ven)

Parameter Xha-Ven
Transmission speed Finite; delay depends on the route
Bandwidth Distributed parallel channels
Coverage 100% land, 60% ocean (surface)
Security Encryption, access separation and redundancy
Energy consumption Powered by geothermal heat
Network size ~12 billion km of hyphae

Light signals pass through guiding structures within the hyphae. Quantum states are used in individual protected nodes, but sending a result requires an ordinary channel. Longer routes and more relays increase delay; reserve branches bypass damaged sections.

3.2 Crystal Memory (Ven-Khal)

Information is stored in the lattice defects of grown silicon-carbide crystals.

Parameter Ven-Khal crystal
Capacity Multilayer optical recording
Durability Long storage with verification reads
Read energy Power for light source and detector
Record destruction Heat, radiation and mechanical damage

Large collections are distributed among crystals and kept in several locations. Periodic reads reveal damage before it affects every copy.

3.3 Emotional Transmission (Sha-Ven)

A technology that transmits not just information but sensory-emotional experience — reconstruction of recorded sensory sequences. Applications: education (living through a great engineer's experience), diplomacy, art, memory (preserving recordings of the deceased’s experience — but not restoring it, a philosophical prohibition).

3.4 Moryn Language — Without Technology

Moryn communicate through bioluminescent patterns visible to depths of 3 000 m; a complex message requires a sequence of distinguishable signals. Translation uses living translators — modified organisms symbiotizing with both species.

Ruun Ven

  1. Xha-Ven — planetary mycelial network, ~12 billion km of hyphae.
  2. Finite-speed optical transmission through a living medium.
  3. Ven-Khal crystals store layered optical records; archives require redundant copies.
  4. Emotional transmission records sensory experience.
  5. Moryn need no technology — bioluminescent "speech."
