Volume VI: Technology — Chapter 3: Xha-Ven — The Biosphere Network

"Electricity is a crude, primitive way to transmit information. Thousands of years of evolution created the perfect network — mycelium. We simply learned to speak its language." — First Keeper of the Network, +2,800 Y.E.

3.1 Living Network (Xha-Ven)

Xha-Ven is a biosphere communication network linking grown fibres and living nodes to optical transmitters. The biological layer maintains and repairs the transmission medium; information is carried by signals travelling through it at finite speed.

How it works:

Deep beneath the planet's surface (at depths of 500–2,000 m), a network of modified mycelia (Mycophyta) has grown, connected into a single organism. This organism — Rass-Mor (the Unified Consciousness) — is not sentient, but serves as an ideal transmission medium.

Parameter Xha-Ven Terrestrial Analog
Transmission speed Finite; delay depends on the route —
Bandwidth Distributed parallel channels —
Coverage 100% land, 60% ocean (surface) —
Security Encryption, access separation and redundancy —
Energy consumption Powered by geothermal heat —
Network size ~12 billion km of hyphae —

Light signals pass through guiding structures within the hyphae. Quantum states are used in individual protected nodes, but sending a result requires an ordinary channel. Longer routes and more relays increase delay; reserve branches bypass damaged sections.

3.2 Crystal Memory (Ven-Khal)

Information is not stored on disks or in the "cloud." It is stored in the lattice defects of specially grown silicon-carbide crystals.

Parameter Ven-Khal crystal Terrestrial Analog
Capacity Multilayer optical recording —
Durability Long storage with verification reads —
Read energy Power for light source and detector —
Record destruction Heat, radiation and mechanical damage —

How it looks: Xha'Ruun libraries are halls with shelves of transparent, fist-sized crystals. To "read" a crystal, it is placed in a resonator that passes the light of an H₂S laser through it. Light passing through the lattice defects is distorted — and information is reconstructed from these distortions.

Large collections are distributed among crystals and kept in several locations. Periodic reads reveal damage before it affects every copy.

3.3 Emotional Transmission (Sha-Ven)

Xha'Ruun have developed a technology that transmits not just information, but sensory-emotional experience. This is not a "video call." It reconstructs recorded sensory sequences.

Ven-Khal stores neural-activity recordings from which an interface reproduces a selected sensory sequence. Recipients experience it through their own bodies: memory, expectations and physiology alter the result. This supports learning and art without transferring a person from one being to another.

3.4 Moryn Language — Without Technology

Moryn do not need Xha-Ven. They communicate through bioluminescent patterns visible at depths of up to 3,000 m. Their "speech" is color and rhythm. A complex message requires a sequence of distinguishable signals and shared knowledge of their meaning.

For translation between species, living translators are used — modified organisms that symbiotize with both Moryn and Xha'ri, conveying meaning in both directions.
