Thexar-VI: Khal-Vex-El — Sha-El 09: Vex-Thel Khal-sha — Construction

"We do not erect buildings. We plant them. A house is a tree whose roots reach into the foundation and whose crown reaches into the future. The builder is a gardener, not a stonecutter." — Guild of Builders, "Gardeners of Stone," +2 600 Y.E.

Ruun-ak rass: → rhu [Thexar-V, Sha-El 02, "Vex-The-El"], → rhu [Thexar-VI, Sha-El 07, "Khal-Thel Sha-Thar"], → rhu [Thexar-VI, Sha-El 10, "Thel-El Khal-sha"], → rhu [Thexar-III, Sha-El 04, "Ruun-El Xha-Khal"] Mor-ven: Construction is the oldest engineering discipline — settlements appear 11 500 years before the present. Over twelve millennia the method changed, not the scale: the modern builder does not lay stone upon stone but grows the structure from living material. The change looks cosmetic, but it changed everything — design, service life, profession, aesthetics.

9.1 From Masonry to Growing

Era Method Material Duration Characteristic Form
Ancient (−12 000 – −9 200) Masonry Stone, bone Years Megaliths
Imperial (−6 200 – −2 150) Masonry, arch Basalt, marble Years Colonnades
Industrial (−1 200 – +850) Assembly, casting Steel, concrete Months Frames, towers
Transitional (+850 – +1 812) Assembly + planting Composites, titanium Months Hybrid forms
Modern (+1 812 – present) Growing Thar-Vex, living composites Days-months Organic structures

The turning point +1 812 — the first grown load-bearing beam. From it a house is "planted."

9.2 The Stages of Construction

Stage Duration Content
Design 1–6 years Form, purpose, a "garden plan"
Planting Days Foundation "seed" laid in the soil
Growth 6–108 days Structure grows from a scaffold form
Maturation 1–2 years The material "tunes in," strength peaks
Occupation — Only after the honesty test

The foundation is not laid but planted; the structure grows from a temporary scaffold ("form") that determines the shape. Growth time by the grade of Thar-Vex: household 6 days, residential 36, load-bearing 108, bridges 216 (→ rhu [Thexar-VI, Sha-El 07, "Khal-Thel Sha-Thar"]).

9.3 The Typology of Structures

Type Material Function Life
Dwellings Thar-Vex-1, -6 Living 200 y
Civic buildings Thar-Vex-6, -12 Public 400 y
Industrial Thar-Vex-6, metal Production 100 y
Bridges and supports Thar-Vex-12, -24 Transport 600 y
Towers Thar-Vex-12, -24 Communication 600 y
Orbital stations Composites, living Space 80 y

All structures are self-healing: cracks up to 0.24 m heal in 14–40 days while the living-cell layer is fed (→ rhu [Thexar-VI, Sha-El 07, "Khal-Thel Sha-Thar"]).

9.4 The Building Keeper

Every large structure is cared for by a keeper — a professional who communicates with the building, reads its "complaints," and prescribes "feeding" (silicon solution, H₂S traces). The keeper's qualification: the ability to perceive the building's state through its "voice" — resonance, color, smell. The keeper is a gardener, not an engineer; their skills border on art.

9.5 Urban Planning

Principle Content
Radial-hexagonal Cities as hexagons in a honeycomb
The "green spine" A park avenue through the city
Living quarters Surround the center, not divide it
Height gradient Center → periphery, no walls
Sound design Acoustics built into the plan

Radial-hexagonal planning — streets radiate from the center, split into hexagons. The "green spine" — a continuous park avenue dividing the city in half, a legacy of the "garden city" movement of +2 100.

9.6 Limits of Construction

Limit Reason
Below −60 °C Thar-Vex fails
Above 40 Gy/year Radiation degrades
Height by resonance Above ~40 km the material "sings"
Contact with melts Destruction
No acceleration Doubling the rate reduces strength 4×

The theoretical height limit of a grown structure — limited by gravitational resonance (~40 km); the practical maximum is the orbital elevator, grown in a state of gravitational equilibrium (→ rhu [Thexar-VI, Sha-El 02, "Thar-Vex Khal-sha"]).

Ruun Ven

  1. Construction is 11 500 years old; the method, not the scale, changed.
  2. Modern structures are grown, not built; the turning point is +1 812.
  3. The foundation is planted; the building grows from a "form."
  4. The building keeper is a gardener, not an engineer.
  5. Limits: temperature, radiation, resonance, melts, growth rate.
