Ruun-ak rass: → rhu [Ruun 02, "Khar'Vex"], → rhu [Ruun 03, "Théxar"], → rhu [Ruun 12, "The-Xar Sha-Vek"], → rhu [Ruun 14, "Xa-Vek Ak"] Mor-ven: N₂ 71.8% / O₂ 22.6% / Ar 2.9% / CO₂ 0.8% — equilibrium greenhouse compensates Khar'Vex low insolation. 15.1 Atmospheric Composition

15.1.1 Listed constituents at the surface

Gas Formula Share Role
Nitrogen N₂ 71.8% Buffer
Oxygen O₂ 22.6% Respiration, photosynth
Argon Ar 2.9% ⁴⁰K decay
Carbon dioxide CO₂ 0.8% Greenhouse
Water vapor (separate, variable wet-air fraction) H₂O 0.5–2.0% Greenhouse
Neon Ne 0.05% Inert
Methane CH₄ 0.0003% Biogenic
Hydrogen sulfide H₂S 0.0008% Biogenic; atmospheric sulfur chemistry
Carbon monoxide CO 0.00005% Volcanic

H₂S at 0.0008% is supplied by volcanism and microbial metabolism. It participates in atmospheric sulfur chemistry and can serve as an electron donor in some ecosystems. Visible sky colour depends on the stellar spectrum, molecular scattering and aerosols.

15.1.2 Vertical Structure

Layer Height (mo) T boundary Gradient Sha
Troposphere 0–2.2 19.0°X −32.0 K/mo Cloud, weather
Stratosphere 2.2–9.1 16.8°X Isothermal Ozone (30% thinner)
Mesosphere 9.1–17.3 −6.6°X −14.8 K/mo Airglow, meteor
Thermosphere 17.3–71.1 208.2–588.9°X +49.2 K/mo Ionosphere, aurora
Exosphere >71.1 — — Sparse H

15.1.3 Ozone Layer

O₃ ~30% less. Reason:

  1. Lower stratospheric O₂ (thin stratosphere)
  2. H₂S + O₃ → SO₂ + H₂O
  3. Elevated UV flux (star proximity)

Consequence: UV-B surface flux elevated → local life high radiation resistance.

15.2 Sky Color

15.2.1 Scattering Physics

  1. Air molecules and aerosols scatter visible light; CO₂ chiefly affects thermal infrared radiation.
  2. H₂S — H₂SO₄ aerosol stratosphere alters shortwave scattering
  3. The orange dwarf Khar’Vex supplies the illuminating spectrum; atmospheric scattering also shapes the observed colour.

Color table:

Condition Théxar Physics
Noon Golden-bronze Aerosol and molecular scattering + stellar spectrum
Sunset Deep red Long optical path through air and aerosols
Twilight Purple Scattering and atmospheric airglow
Horizon Bright orange Suspended dust + aerosol

15.2.2 Color Perception

Xha'ri tetrachromats, 320–780 nm (→ rhu [Ruun 05]) → distinguish 7 sky bands (UV halo → deep-red glimmer) → twilight navigation advantage.

15.3 Radiation Balance ven Greenhouse

15.3.1 Energy Budget

Shan Ven Unit
Star luminosity 0.41 Lk
Distance 0.63 AU
Orbital flux≈1.026S⊕
Albedo 0.31 —
Atm absorption 24 %
Greenhouse amp +16.9 °X
Avg surface T 51.6 °X

At a stellar luminosity of 0.41 L☉ and a distance of 0.63209 AU, the flux at Théxar’s orbit is about 1.026 times Earth’s solar constant. Surface temperature also depends on reflection, atmosphere, clouds and ocean heat transport.

15.3.2 Long-Term Stability

CO₂ regulation:

  1. Volcanic degassing (mantle → atm)
  2. Biological fixation (photosynth + chemosynth)
  3. Ocean pump (cold Gharra dissolution)

Balance → CO₂ 0.8% ± 0.05% for 500 M cycle.

15.4 Circulation

15.4.1 Global

6-cell model, weakened by slow rotation (27.3 h):

Thel (polar) 55°–90° Weak Cold dry

15.4.2 Jet Streams

Stream Latitude Avg speed Height Season

15.4.3 Seasonal

Tilt 14.2°:

15.5 Weather

15.5.1 Precipitation

Cyclone season follows local seasonal conditions; Gharra-Ven and Thel-Mor are names from a regional calendar.

15.5.3 Dust Storms

Main erosion + mineral transport factor. Reason: low humidity + volcanic ash + wide cells.

Strongest can:

Rass-Ven: Annual inter-continent dust transport ~1.5 bln ru.
