Chapter 10: Mythology and Religion of Xha'Ruun

"In the beginning there was nothing — except Silence. And Silence wished to hear itself. And it sounded. And Sound became Light. And Light became Life. And Life became Mind. And Mind became Unity. And Unity became Silence — so that everything could begin again." — "Book of the First Sound," canonical text of orthodoxy

Introduction

The religion of Xha'Ruun — "Teaching of Vibration" (Sha'Thar-Ven — "language of truth-power") — is a unique synthesis of polytheism, pantheism, and scientific cosmology. Unlike many known religious systems, the Teaching of Vibration does not contradict the scientific worldview but complements it: physical laws are seen as the "grammar" in which the gods "wrote" the universe.

The orthodox Teaching is professed by ~78% of Thexar's population. Atheism (~12%) and small cults (~10%) are tolerated, though perceived as "incomplete understanding."

10.1 Cosmogony: Creation Myth

10.1.1 Primordial Vibration

According to the orthodox Teaching, before the beginning there was neither space, nor time, nor matter — there was only the One (Vokh-Ven), a state of absolute symmetry and stillness. Then, for an unknown reason, a fluctuation arose within the One — the Primordial Vibration (Khar-Vokh, lit. "Light-Vibration").

KEY FACT

Theologians compare the Primordial Vibration with cosmological accounts of the early universe. In the Teaching, the image expresses the emergence of order from possibility.

The Primordial Vibration gave rise to the Seven Voices — primordial entities, each of which contributed to the creation of the universe.

10.1.2 Seven Voices

TABLE 10.1: Seven Voices — Structure of the Pantheon

Voice Name Meaning "Sang" Scientific Analog Symbol
First Khar-Vex Light-Giver Space Space-time ☀ (with 7 rays)
Second Thar-Mor Strength-of-Time Time Entropy, time ⟳ (spiral)
Third The-Xa Earth-Life Matter Mass, energy ⌸ (tree with 6 branches)
Fourth Ven-Ash Truth-Limit Laws Fundamental forces ⬡ (hexagon)
Fifth Rass-Ul Unity-Eternity Harmony Symmetry, conservation ⊛ (knot)
Sixth Ghal-Thar War-Strength Entropy Second law 🔥 (flame)
Seventh Nur-Vek Birth-Wisdom Life Biology, evolution ◯ (egg in circle)

Each Voice "sang" its part of reality — a metaphor profound in meaning: in Xha'Ruun physics, there exist theories about the vibrational nature of elementary particles (string-theory analog), and the theologians draw a comparison between these theories and the religious image of singing.

10.1.3 Cycles of Creation

The cosmos, according to the Teaching, exists in cycles called "Great Breath" (Mor-Vokh):

  1. Exhalation — expansion of the universe (current phase)
  2. Pause — maximum expansion
  3. Inhalation — contraction of the universe
  4. Silence — singularity, then a new Exhalation

This directly corresponds to the cyclic universe cosmological model discussed by Thexar physicists (→ see [Ch.01, "Future of the Universe"]).

10.2 Pantheon: Nature of the Deities

10.2.1 Characteristics of the Voices

The Voices are not anthropomorphic gods with personalities and desires. They are closer to archetypal forces — personifications of fundamental principles. Each Voice has:

Voice Color Frequency (Hz) Animal Symbol
Khar-Vex Gold 172.8 Kharru (domesticated)
Thar-Mor Silver 136.1 Thal-ghex (forest jumper)
The-Xa Green 108.0 Ghal-shar (plain runner)
Ven-Ash Blue 96.4 Shal-vek (night predator)
Rass-Ul Violet 86.4 Xan-vokh (herding animal)
Ghal-Thar Red 72.0 Ghal-thass (tiger)
Nur-Vek White (all colors) 144.0 Vek-xal (long-lived reptile)

10.2.2 Theodicy: The Problem of Evil

The Teaching of Vibration resolves the problem of the existence of evil (suffering, catastrophes, death) through the concept of necessary dissonance:

KEY FACT

In the Teaching of Vibration, Ghal-Thar (battle-strength) is not an opponent of the other Voices. He is a necessary part of the symphony. Without entropy there would be no time. Without conflict — no development. Without death — no renewal. Evil and suffering are not an error in creation, but a necessary condition for the existence of free will and evolution. "A symphony without dissonance is not a symphony, but the hum of a single note."

10.3 Sacred Texts

10.3.1 Canon

The main body of sacred texts — "Book of the First Sound" (Sha'Khar-Vokh) — dates to ~−5,200 y.c. (Flourishing Era) and contains:

Section Content Volume
Book of Creation (Vokh-Sha) Cosmogony 14 chapters
Book of Law (Ven-Sha) Ethical precepts 42 chapters
Book of Songs (Khar-Sha) Hymns and prayers 108 hymns
Book of Prophecies (Mor-Sha) Eschatology 7 chapters

10.3.2 Excerpts from the "Book of Creation"

"From Silence was born Sound. From Sound — Light. From Light — the first thought: 'I am.' And this thought became the first word, and the word became the first law." — Book of Creation 1:1–4

"Then Khar-Vex sang space, and it spread out in all directions, and it had no boundaries. And Thar-Mor sang time, and it flowed, and it had no stop." — Book of Creation 2:12–15

"The student asked: 'Why is there evil in the world, if the Voices are pure?' The Teacher answered: 'Can there be a symphony of a single note? Can there be light without darkness? Can there be life without death? Dissonance is not an error in music. Dissonance is what makes music alive.'" — Book of Law 31:4–7

10.4 Religious Practice

10.4.1 Resonance Temples

The centers of religious life are Resonance Temples (Khar-Vokh-Thel), architectural structures designed for acoustic resonance.

PROFILE: Resonance Temple

Parameter Typical Value
Shape Hexagonal (in plan)
Height 49–98 sha
Material Stone, silicon-organic composite
Acoustics Reverberation time: 8–12 s
Capacity 500–3,000
Resonance frequency Tuned to the frequency of the Voice
Number on Thexar ~1,200

The architecture of the temple turns it into a gigantic musical instrument. Each temple is "tuned" to a specific frequency corresponding to one of the Seven Voices. The voice of the worshippers, resonating with the architecture, creates an acoustic pattern that, Xha'Ruun believe, "tunes" the soul into harmony with the corresponding cosmic force.

10.4.2 Musical Meditations

The main form of religious practice is collective singing (Sha-Rass). Worshippers gather in the temple and sing multi-frequency chorales. Thanks to two pairs of vocal cords (→ see [Ch.05, "Physiology"]), priests can produce two tones simultaneously.

Structure of a typical meditation:

  1. Tuning (5–10 min) — individual humming at the temple's resonant frequency
  2. Ascension (15–30 min) — gradual harmonic complexity, addition of overtones
  3. Climax (5–15 min) — full chorale, all voices merge
  4. Dissolution (5–10 min) — gradual fading, return to silence

10.4.3 Calendar and Holidays

Holiday Voice Ritual
Festival of Light Khar-Vex Sunrise, lighting of lamps
Festival of Time Thar-Mor Astronomical observations
Day of Earth The-Xa Tree planting
Festival of Truth Ven-Ash Reading of laws, courts
Festival of Unity Rass-Ul Universal reconciliation
Night of Fire Ghal-Thar Memorial bonfires
Festival of Birth Nur-Vek Children's rituals

10.5 Eschatology

10.5.1 Individual Eschatology

After death, according to the Teaching, the consciousness of Xha'Ruun returns to the Great Silence (Vokh-Zhal) — a state similar to the Primordial Vibration. Then, after a period of "intermission" (duration depending on lifetime merits), consciousness can reincarnate into a new life form.

Levels of reincarnation (in ascending order):

  1. Unicellular — minimal consciousness
  2. Plants — environmental perception
  3. Lower animals — instincts
  4. Higher animals — emotions, learning
  5. Xha'Ruun — sapience

The goal of spirit evolution is the successive ascent through these levels until reaching the Seventh Level — complete merging with the One (liberation from the cycle of reincarnation).

10.5.2 Universal Eschatology

According to the Teaching, at the end of the current cycle (the "Great Breath"), the universe will cease expanding and begin to contract. At the moment of the Great Contraction, all Voices will merge into a single note, which will return to the Silence. After Silence will follow a new "Inspiration" — the birth of a new universe.

RELATION

The cyclic eschatology of the Teaching of Vibration remarkably aligns with the cyclic cosmological models considered by Thexar physicists (→ see [Ch.01, "Future of the Universe"]). The difference is only that religion asserts: the new cycle will be meaningful — the universe is born not randomly, but as an act of creation flowing from the nature of the Primordial Vibration.

10.6 Religion and Science

10.6.1 Synthesis

One of the unique features of Xha'Ruun civilization is the absence of conflict between religion and science. Xha'Ruun see them as complementary languages describing one reality.

Language Object Term for "beginning" Term for "law"
Religion Meaning, purpose Primordial Vibration Will of the Voices
Science Mechanism, cause Quantum fluctuation Fundamental constants
Synthesis Physics says "how," religion says "why" One process One reality

10.6.2 Sources of Synthesis

This attitude has historical roots:

  1. Flourishing Era (−6,200 – −2,100): science and religion developed together, priests were scientists
  2. Era of Crisis (−2,100 – −750): joint survival strengthened the alliance
  3. Era of Unity (+850 – present): the guild of Scholars and the guild of Keepers sit in the Council of Unity as equals

10.6.3 Atheism

Atheism (~12% of the population) is tolerated. Atheists generally consider the Vibration a physical process without conscious intention. However, even atheists participate in musical meditations (as a cultural practice) and observe ethical norms based on the Teaching.

10.7 Cults and Sects

10.7.1 Major Branches

Branch Share Difference from Orthodoxy
Orthodoxy (Sha-Thar) 78% Seven Voices are equal
Unitarianism (Vokh-Xha) 8% All Voices are aspects of the One
Materialism (The-Xha) 12% Atheism / agnosticism
Cult of Ghal-Thar 2% Entropy = supreme force
Neo-vibrationism <1% Modern reinterpretation

10.7.2 Prohibited Practices

Prohibited (by council of guilds):

10.8 Mythology in Culture

10.8.1 Symbolism in Art

The symbols of the Seven Voices permeate all Xha'Ruun art:

10.8.2 Mythology and Language

Religious terminology has deeply penetrated everyday language (→ see [Ch.06, "Lexicon"]):

10.9 Temples and Pilgrimage

10.9.1 Largest Temples

Temple Location Dedicated To Year Built Capacity
Temple of Seven Voices Khar-Vexar All Voices −5,600 3,000
Golden Resonator Ven-Khal Khar-Vex +1,200 1,500
Temple of Eternal Motion Tor-Ven (mountain) Thar-Mor −3,200 800
Library-Temple First Library Archive Ven-Ash −4,800 2,200

10.9.2 Pilgrimage

The tradition of pilgrimage — "Path of Seven Temples". A believer visits all seven temples (one for each Voice) over the course of a lifetime. The path takes from 3 to 10 years and is considered the spiritual completion of maturity.
