Introduction
The history of Xha'Ruun civilization spans many millennia — from the first permanent settlements in the fertile Thar Valley to modern space-faring society. Over this time, civilization passed through the greatest rises and deepest falls: continental unification and ecological collapse, a flourishing of sciences and Dark Ages, the invention of writing and the expansion into space.
Xha'Ruun history is not linear progress. It is more of a spiral: each successive generation stands on the shoulders of the previous ones, but some shoulders were broken by wars and catastrophes. And yet — civilization survived, preserved knowledge, and continues to develop.

Fig. 7.1. Chronology of Xha'Ruun civilization. Six epochs — from primitivity to space.
7.2 Pre-civilization Era (−12,000 – −9,800)
7.2.1 Origin
The first archaeological traces of Xha'Ruun ancestors date to ~−15,000 y.c. — stone tools (hand axes, scrapers) in the Thar Valley region (continent Kharak). The hominid lineage of Thermochromadae by this time already possessed:
- Bipedalism (~−150,000 years)
- Enlarged brain (~−80,000 years)
- Proto-language (~−20,000 years)
- Control of fire (~−5,000 years)
7.2.2 First Permanent Settlements
~−11,500 y.c. — the first permanent settlements appear on the terraces of the Khar-Tor river. The oldest known is Thar-Vex ("Gift of the Valley," now an archaeological site within the modern city limits).
| Settlement | Region | Dating | Population (est.) | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thar-Vex | Thar Valley, Kharak | −11,500 | ~200 | Oldest |
| Khar-Ur | Serrin Coast, Kharak | −11,200 | ~150 | Fishing |
| The-Nur | Raal Plateau, Rhuval | −10,800 | ~120 | Highland |
7.2.3 Domestication
~−10,200 y.c. — domestication of kharru (herbivore, analog of large cattle). Kharru is a six-legged animal of the class Thermochromadae, providing meat, milk (protein analog), and hides. Domestication occurred independently in two regions: Thar Valley (Kharak) and Raal Plateau (Rhuval).
7.2.4 Proto-Art
Primitive Xha'Ruun left behind cave paintings in the caves of Kharak (~−10,500 y.c.). Depictions include:
- Hunting scenes (hexapodal figures with spears)
- Astronomical symbols (a star with 7 rays — early form of the logogram khar)
- Abstract spiral patterns (possibly proto-writing)
QUOTE
"In the cave of Khar-Tor, at a depth of 200 meters, we found what we did not hope to find: a depiction of the sky. Thousands of dots chiseled into stone — a star map 12,000 years old. They looked at the same stars as we do."
— Archaeologist Shaen-Khar, "Cave Observatories of the Ancients," Era of Unity
7.3 Early Civilization (−9,800 – −6,200)
7.3.1 Invention of Writing
−9,780 y.c. — proto-writing appears independently in three regions:
- Thar Valley (Kharak) — proto-syllabary, ~120 signs
- Serrin Coast (Kharak) — pictographic writing, ~80 signs
- Raal Plateau (Rhuval) — knotted writing (quipu-like)
By −9,200, the Thar Valley system becomes dominant — its simplicity and efficiency (one sign = one syllable) secured victory over competitors.
7.3.2 Metallurgy
−9,200 y.c. — first copper tools in the foothills of the Khar-Tor range. Copper was smelted in primitive furnaces at 643°X. By −8,500 bronze appears (copper + arsenic, later tin).
TABLE 7.3: Development of Metallurgy
Metal Date Region Application Copper −9,200 Kharak (Khar-Tor) Tools, ornaments Bronze (As) −8,500 Kharak Weapons, tools Bronze (Sn) −8,100 Kharak + Rhuval Standard alloys Iron −7,300 Kharak Tools, weapons Steel −5,800 Kharak (Flourishing Era)
7.3.3 City-States
By −7,800 the first city-states form. Largest:
| City | Continent | Population (peak) | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khar-Vexar | Kharak | 18,600 | Trade, political center |
| Vexan | Kharak | 12,200 | Religious center |
| Moraat | Rhuval | 8,400 | Mountain, metallurgical |
| Sharrus | Vexar | 5,100 | Port, fishing |
7.3.4 First Laws
−7,200 y.c. — "Codex of Khar" — the oldest known written legal code (40 articles carved on a stone stele in Khar-Vexar). Regulates: property, marriage (triads), punishments, debts.
7.4 Flourishing Era (−6,200 – −2,100)
"In those times, the stars shone brighter, knowledge grew faster, and the peoples sang one song." — Classical chronicle "Century of Light," anonymous
7.4.1 Foundation of the First Empire
−6,150 y.c. — King Vexan I of the Khar-Tor dynasty unites eight city-states of the Thar Valley under a single authority. This date is considered the beginning of the First Empire.
Ruler's title: "First Voice" (Khar-Vokh) — symbolically, the ruler spoke "on behalf of all voices" (clans).
7.4.2 Expansion
| Period | Territory | Event |
|---|---|---|
| −6,150 – −5,800 | Kharak (entire continent) | Conquest of northern clans |
| −5,800 – −5,200 | Rhuval (northern coast) | Colonization |
| −5,200 – −4,500 | Seas between Kharak and Rhuval | Fleet, trade |
| −4,200 | First circumnavigation | Thexar's spherical shape confirmed |
| −4,000 – −3,500 | Vexar | Establishment of trade relations |
7.4.3 Great Discoveries
The Flourishing Era — golden age of science, engineering, and art.
TABLE 7.4: Scientific Achievements of the Flourishing Era
Date Discovery Author Significance −5,800 Heliocentric system Tor-Ven Thexar orbits Khar'Vex −5,500 Mathematics (senary system) Sha-Ruun Standardization of counting −5,200 Atomic theory Ven-Thal Matter consists of particles −4,200 Circumnavigation Gharra-Vex Spherical shape of the planet −3,800 Laws of motion Thar-Mor Analog of Newtonian physics −3,500 Periodic table Vex-An Systematization of elements −3,200 Evolutionary theory Xa-Ven Origin of species −2,800 Optics and telescope Khar-Vex Observation of Rhuun's moons
7.4.4 Architecture and Art
The First Empire left behind monumental structures:
- Temple of Seven Voices in Khar-Vexar (−5,600 y.c.) — acoustic masterpiece designed for vocal resonance
- First Library (−4,800 y.c.) — collection of ~200,000 clay tablets and papyrus scrolls
- Khar-Tor Bridge (−3,400 y.c.) — stone arch bridge 840 m long
7.4.5 Decline
By −2,500 y.c. the First Empire shows signs of decline:
- Demographic pressure (~18 million on Kharak by the end of the era)
- Resource depletion (deforestation, soil erosion)
- Climatic changes (little ice age on Thexar)
- Political corruption and separatism
7.5 Era of Crisis (−2,100 – −750)
7.5.1 Fall of the First Empire
−2,150 y.c. — the First Empire falls. The catalyst was the Three-Year Drought (−2,152 – −2,149) — the worst drought in 2,000 years, causing mass famine.
−2,120 y.c. — epidemic of "Red Rot" — a bacterial infection affecting the hemocyanin circulatory system of Xha'Ruun. Mortality: ~30% of the population in the epicenter (Thar Valley). The epidemic claimed an estimated ~200 million lives in 15 years.
KEY FACT
The Red Rot epidemic of −2,120 – −2,105 was the greatest catastrophe in Xha'Ruun history. It destroyed ~12% of the entire planetary population.
7.5.2 Dark Ages (−2,100 – −1,800)
After the fall of the Empire came an era of fragmentation:
- Disintegration into ~200 independent city-states and clan territories
- Loss of centralized knowledge (First Library plundered)
- Technological regression (loss of steel and glass secrets)
- Demographic collapse (planet-wide population reduced to ~400 million; Kharak core: ~4 million)
- Resource wars between clans
7.5.2.1 Clan War (−2,100 – −1,950)
Key conflict of the Dark Ages — a prolonged series of wars known as the "Clan War" (Ghal-Ruun). After the disappearance of central Imperial authority, ~200 independent entities entered into a struggle for control over:
| Resource | Significance | Controlling Clans |
|---|---|---|
| Arable land (Thar Valley) | Food | Thar-Vex, Khar-Ur, Shan-En |
| Khar-Tor mines | Metals | Vexan, Khar-Tor, Moraat |
| Serrin Coast | Trade, salt | Serrin-Tash, Thalas-Vek |
| Temple-libraries | Knowledge (control weapon) | Keepers (neutral) |
Types of conflicts:
- Resource wars (−2,100 – −2,050) — direct clashes over land and water
- Raiding (−2,050 – −2,000) — mutual exhaustion, transition to raids
- City sieges (−2,000 – −1,950) — destruction of fortified settlements
Consequences of the Clan War:
- ~60% of Thar Valley irrigation systems destroyed
- Technologies for large-scale construction lost
- Cultural ties between continents severed (Rhuval and Vexar isolated)
- Phenomenon of "fortress-cities" emerged — settlements surrounded by mud-brick walls
- Institution of "neutral Keepers" arose — clans that did not participate in the war and preserved knowledge in fortified libraries
KEY FACT
It was the Clan War that led to the formation of Xha'Ruun's unique ethics: the trauma of centuries of fratricidal conflict ingrained in culture the highest value of unity (rass) and knowledge (ven) as the only forces capable of uniting fragmented clans. The Council of Unity millennia later would be built on principles born precisely in this era.
7.5.2.2 Era of "Fortress-Cities" (−1,950 – −1,800)
After the exhaustion of the Clan War came the period of "fortress-cities" — every major city became an autonomous fortified entity controlling the surrounding lands.
| Fortress-City | Walls | Population | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khar-Vexar (Old City) | 10 sha high, 4.9 sha wide | 12,000 | Survived thanks to the temple |
| Shan-En | Natural cliff | 8,000 | Impregnable citadel |
| Ven-Khal (settlement) | Wood-earth rampart | 4,000 | Refuge for scholars |
| Thar-Vex (New) | 3.7 sha high | 2,000 | Rebuilt on ruins |
Key innovation of this era — "Knowledge for Protection" system: Library Keepers provided shelter to scientists, artisans, and physicians in exchange for copying books and teaching apprentices. Thanks to this system, ~15% of the First Empire's written heritage was preserved.
7.5.3 Industrial Revival (−1,800 – −750)
Gradually, through centuries of fragmentation, recovery began:
| Date | Event | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| −1,500 | Invention of the water mill | Mechanization of labor |
| −1,350 | Resumption of intercontinental navigation | Trade |
| −1,200 | Steam engine (Thal-Ven) | Beginning of industrialization |
| −1,050 | First railroad | Transport revolution |
| −900 | Telegraph (optical) | High-speed communication |
| −800 | Resumption of telescope building | Astronomy |
| −750 | Signing of the "Unity Treaty" | End of Crisis |
−1,200 y.c. — engineer Thal-Ven from the independent city-state Shan-En (Kharak) demonstrates the first working steam engine. This date is considered the beginning of the industrial era and the technological watershed between antiquity and modernity.
7.6 Renaissance Era (−750 – +850)
7.6.1 Unity Treaty
−750 y.c. — signing of the "Unity Treaty" (Ven-Rass-Dok) between the 8 largest regions. The treaty:
- Established common laws of trade and diplomacy
- Prohibited wars between signatories (Great Truce)
- Created the Interregional Council (prototype of the Council of Unity)
- Introduced unified measures and weights

7.6.2 Industrial Revolution

KEY FACT
The first orbital flight of Xha'Ruun occurred in +480 y.c. The gap between the invention of the steam engine (−1,200) and the first orbital flight (+480) was 1,680 years. This period includes the long recovery after the Era of Crisis and several cycles of technological development.
7.7 Era of Unity (+850 – present)
7.7.1 Foundation of the Council of Unity
+850 y.c. — in Khar-Vexar, the Council of Unity (Rass-Vokh-Sha) is convened — the supreme representative body of 49 members, elected by guilds and regions. The first chair elected is Ven-Thal-Vek — physicist and diplomat.
Structure of the Council of Unity:
- 49 members
- Term of office: 10 years
- Elections: every 2 years, 1/5 of the composition is renewed
- Guilds delegate 24 members, regions — 25
- No one may be elected more than 2 times
