Volume II: History — Chapter 14: History of Three Species
"Three species — three views of one universe. Xha'ri build upward, toward the stars. Kel'vash build inward, into the rock. Moryn build outward, along the ocean currents. Together we build harmony." — Council of Unity record, +2,500 Y.E.

Introduction
Théxar is a planet on which civilization developed not in one but in three sapient species. The Xha'ri (land-dwelling), Kel'vash (mountain-dwelling), and Moryn (ocean-dwelling) developed separately for hundreds of thousands of years and met only in the historical era. The history of their contact and joint coexistence is a unique narrative that defined the ethics of modern civilization.
14.1 The Three Species in Numbers
| Species | Population | Share | Trend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xha'ri | ≈ 2.8 billion | ~58% | Stable |
| Kel'vash | ≈ 1.2 billion | ~25% | Growing |
| Moryn | ≈ 0.8 billion | ~17% | Stable |
| Total | ≈ 4.8 billion | 100% | — |
All three species are recognized as sapient and are equal participants in the Council of Unity.
14.2 Xha'ri — The Dominant Species
Xha'ri — the first sapient species of Théxar to reach civilization (~15,000 years ago). Their history is described in detail in the previous chapters of Volume II. The land-based habitat, three-sex biology, and six-limb symmetry defined their cultural trajectory — building "upward, toward the stars" (→ see [Volume I, Ch.05, "The Xha'Ruun Species"]).
14.3 Kel'vash — The Silicon-Organic Species
14.3.1 Habitat
The Kel'vash inhabit highlands and deserts — extreme environments with low humidity and high radiation. Their biochemistry is based on silicon-organic compounds, making their habitat unsuitable for Xha'ri and vice versa — a natural barrier that reduced competition (→ see [Volume I, Ch.38, "Kel'vash"]).
14.3.2 Discovery and Contact
| Event | Year |
|---|---|
| First evidence (rock paintings) | ~−8,000 |
| First confirmed contact | −2,400 |
| Recognition of sapience | −2,200 |
| Entry into the Council of Unity | +1,200 |
The first contact (−2,400) resulted from the Xha'ri mountain expansion into regions inhabited by the Kel'vash. The recognition of sapience (−2,200) became a legal event: the Kel'vash received equal rights, and attacks on them were prohibited.
14.3.3 Role in the Civilization
The Kel'vash specialize as engineers and builders. Their contribution:
- Tunnels and underground structures;
- Mountain mining;
- Architecture in extreme conditions.
Their endurance and patience make them indispensable in long-term infrastructure projects, including the mountain section of the orbital elevator.
14.4 Moryn — The Ocean Sapients
14.4.1 Habitat
The Moryn inhabit the deep-water zones of the Gharra ocean (depths 500–3,000 m). Their civilization is built on bioluminescent communication — in the dark depths, light became the main channel of speech without eliminating hearing (→ see [Volume I, Ch.39, "Moryn"]).
14.4.2 Discovery and Contact
| Event | Year |
|---|---|
| First observations (from boats) | ~−3,000 |
| Confirmed contact | −1,200 |
| Establishment of permanent contact | −800 |
| Entry into the Council of Unity | +1,500 |
14.4.3 Communication Problems
Contact with the Moryn faced three fundamental barriers:
- The language barrier — the sound speech of the Xha'ri against the bioluminescence of the Moryn;
- Different perception of time — the Moryn metabolism is ~3 times slower, their response tempo differs, while physical time units remain shared;
- Different ethical systems — ideas about life, property, and consent did not coincide.
Overcoming these barriers took centuries and led to the creation of the first two-way communication devices — light projectors and the "language of light" (→ see [Volume II, Ch.12, "Legal History"]).
14.5 The Principle of Three: The Law of Accord
The Council of Unity is founded on the principle of three (the Law of Accord): no decision affecting all species may be made without consultation of the Xha'ri, Kel'vash, and Moryn.
This principle is the legal core of interspecies coexistence. It means:
- Equality of species before the law;
- The right of veto for each species on questions affecting it;
- Mandatory consultation on common decisions.
The principle of three, developed through difficult centuries of contact, became a unique ethical construction — perhaps the most significant contribution of Théxar's civilization to the idea of sapient life in the universe (→ see [Volume I, Ch.40, "Three Species: the Principle of Accord"]).
Chapter Summary
