Chapter 40: The Three Species of Théxar — Principle of Accord

"Three species — three views of one universe. The Xha'ri build upward, toward the stars. The Kel'vash build downward, into the rock. The Moryn build outward, along the ocean currents. Together we build harmony." — Council of Unity record, +2 500 yr.

Introduction
Théxar is the only known planet to have given rise to not one but three independently arisen sentient species. This chapter closes the naturalistic survey of Volume I, drawing together what chapters 5, 38, and 39 described separately: how three radically different life forms share a single planet — not by displacing one another, but by complementing each other, occupying three distinct niches of one world. → see [Ch.37, epigraph: "Théxar is a planet without empty niches"]

40.2 The Council of Unity and the Principle of Three
Law of Accord: Law of Accord
No decision of the Council of Unity may be made without consulting representatives of all three sentient species of Théxar — Xha'Ruun, Kel'vash, and Moryn. This provision, known as the Principle of Three, was established upon the Kel'vash admission to the Council (+1,200 yr.) and confirmed upon the Moryn admission (+1,500 yr.).
The Principle of Three is not merely a diplomatic formality but a structural response to a problem Xha'Ruun civilization recognized early: the three species perceive the world, time, and ethics so differently that decisions made by only one of them systematically undervalue the interests of the other two.
40.2.1 The Reconciliation Mechanism
Because the three species communicate, think, and act at radically different tempos (seconds to minutes for Xha'Ruun, hours to days for Kel'vash, a dialogue slowed roughly threefold for Moryn), the Council of Unity developed a multi-stage protocol:
- Initiation — the matter is raised in Xha'Ruun spoken language (the Council's working language)
- Translation — specialized devices ("tempo translators" for Kel'vash, transluminators for Moryn) convert the matter into vibrational and bioluminescent formats
- Deliberation — each species considers the matter at its own pace (from hours to several days for complex decisions)
- Reconciliation — the responses are synchronized and presented simultaneously
- Ratification — the decision takes effect only if none of the three species objects
40.3 Timeline of Contact
TABLE 40.2: Summary Timeline of Interspecies Contact
Year (E.U.) Event −8,000 First evidence of Kel'vash existence (cave rock art) −3,000 First sightings of Moryn glow from fishing vessels −2,400 First confirmed contact with Kel'vash −2,200 Recognition of Kel'vash sentience by the Council of Guilds −1,200 Confirmed contact with Moryn (Research Guild bathyscaphe) −800 Establishment of permanent contact with Moryn +850 Founding of the Council of Unity (Xha'Ruun) +1,200 Kel'vash admission to the Council of Unity +1,500 Moryn admission to the Council of Unity
Notably, both "silent" species — Kel'vash and Moryn — were known to Xha'Ruun civilization long before their sentience was recognized (a lag measured in millennia for Kel'vash and centuries for Moryn). In both cases the delay stems from the same factor: each species' communication is so unlike spoken language that recognizing it as language, rather than a natural phenomenon, took centuries of observation.
40.4 Interspecies Communication Barriers
TABLE 40.3: Communication Barriers
Barrier Xha'Ruun ↔ Kel'vash Xha'Ruun ↔ Moryn Kel'vash ↔ Moryn Tempo ~40× difference ~3× difference ~13× difference Channel Sound ↔ vibration Sound ↔ light Vibration ↔ light Privacy of thought Compatible Different conventions of addressing visible signals Both "transparent" to differing degrees Temporal ethics Kel'vash — "geological" thinking Moryn — collective present Requires double translation
Direct dialogue between Kel’vash and Moryn requires conversion between vibrational and light signals. Xha’Ruun mediators help align tempo and meaning, but technical translation does not require their presence in every conversation.
40.5 Ecological Unity of Théxar
The three species occupy three distinct but interconnected ecological niches, together covering nearly the full range of conditions suitable for complex life on Théxar:
The three niches of sentient life on Théxar
| Altitude/depth | Species | Habitat | Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|
| +2,400…+9,500 sha | Kel’vash | Mountains/deserts | 40–95°X |
| 0…+2,400 sha | Xha’Ruun | All land | ~30–65°X |
| −1,200…−3,000 sha | Moryn | Gharra depths | 2–8°X |

Different habitats reduce direct competition, but mountains, land and ocean remain connected by water, atmosphere and material flows. Extraction, construction and discharges affect neighbours; cooperation therefore requires continuing agreements.
40.6 Conclusion of Volume I
Here the naturalistic and civilizational survey of Théxar, begun in Chapter 1 with the specification of the universe, comes full circle: from the star Khar'Vex and the planet's formation (Ch.1–3, 12) — through biochemistry and the origin of life (Ch.4, 20) — to the emergence of not one but three independent minds, sharing a planet without empty niches between them (Ch.5, 38–40).
Volume I has given the reader a complete picture of the world of Théxar as a physical and biological whole. Volume II ("History") continues this story from the standpoint of events and civilization; Volumes III–X delve into society, language, culture, technology, and nature for each of the three species in turn.
Chapter Summary
Key takeaways:
- Théxar is a planet of three independently arisen sentient species: Xha'Ruun, Kel'vash, Moryn.
- The Council of Unity operates under the Principle of Three (Law of Accord) — no decision is made without the consent of all three species.
- Recognition of sentience for both "silent" species lagged by centuries/millennia due to their non-standard communication channels.
Different habitats reduce direct competition, but mountains, land and ocean remain connected by water, atmosphere and material flows. Extraction, construction and discharges affect neighbours; cooperation therefore requires continuing agreements.
- The three sentient species of Théxar: Xha'Ruun, Kel'vash, Moryn
- Principle of Three / Law of Accord — mandatory consent of all species in the Council of Unity (Law of Accord)
- Full contact timeline for the three species compiled in Table 40.2
