Chapter 13: Continents of Théxar
"Three continents — three characters. Kharak — old, rich, wise. Rhuval — young, passionate, warlike. Vexar — detached, mysterious, proud. So say the geographers. But the inhabitants of each are certain that their continent is the best. And each is right in their own way." — "Geography for Travelers", popular edition, +2,500 Y.E.
Related sections: → see [Ch.03, "Planet Théxar"], → see [Ch.12, "Geological Evolution"], → see [Ch.11, "Ecology"] Key principle: Théxar's land is represented by three continents — Kharak, Rhuval, Vexar — and a system of island territories. Differences in their size, position, and natural conditions predetermined economic specialization and cultural differences.

Introduction
The total land area of Théxar is ~154.914 million km² — about 33% of the planet's surface. Three continents — Kharak, Rhuval, and Vexar — differ in size, geological age, climate, and mineral resources. Each represents not just a geographical region but a separate world with its own formation history, ecosystem, and cultural tradition. Surrounding them are shelf seas, island archipelagos, and coral systems that complement the continental geography.
KEY FACT
All three continents of Théxar have different geological origins. Kharak is the oldest, its core formed ~5.5 billion cycles ago. Rhuval and Vexar are products of the breakup of the southern supercontinent Vaal-Kharak, completed ~1.0 billion cycles ago. → see [Ch.12, "Plate Tectonics"]

Kharak (from the root khar- — "light", "star") is the largest continent, the ancient core of the Xha'Ruun civilization. Its name reflects not only its geographical position (northern, under the light of Khar'Vex) but also its cultural role: it is here that the First Empire arose, here the capital is located, and here the majority of the Union's industry and science is concentrated.
13.2.1 Relief and Geology
Kharak is geologically the oldest — its craton (ancient core) has an age of ~5.5 billion cycles. The relief is characterized by three main zones:
- Central Plain — a vast lowland (0.34 million mo²) with elevations of 244–732 sha above sea level. Formed by ancient river deposits; today it is the planet's main agricultural breadbasket.
- Khar-Tor Ridge — a mountain range along the western coast, extending ~976 mo. Contains the highest peak of Théxar — Mount Verksan (9,537 sha). A zone of active orogenesis with rich ore deposits. → see [LOC-0052]
- Shan Desert — a rocky plateau in the southeast (0.14 million mo²). The surface consists of gravel plains and remnant ancient rocks. Rich in uranium and thorium.
13.2.2 Climate
Kharak spans five climate zones — from equatorial forests on the southern coast to polar deserts in the north:
| Zone | Share of continent | Average T (°X) | Precipitation (mm/year) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equatorial forests | 8% | 58.1…62.5 | 2,500–4,000 |
| Savannas | 18% | 54.9…60.3 | 800–1,500 |
| Temperate zone | 35% | 47.8…56.0 | 500–900 |
| Boreal (taiga) | 28% | 39.6…50.5 | 300–600 |
| Polar tundra | 11% | 31.5…47.8 | 100–300 |
13.2.3 Regions
- Thar Delta (0.03 million mo²) — southeastern coast where the Thar River flows into the Serrin Sea. The oldest cultural center; here lie the first settlements of civilization (→ see [EV-0001]) and the capital Khar-Vexar.
- Serrin Plateau (0.07 million mo²) — an ancient basalt plateau in the north, age >2 billion cycles. One of the oldest geological formations on the planet.
- Northern Taiga (0.17 million mo²) — an extensive zone of coniferous forests. An important source of biological resources.
13.2.4 Economic Significance
Kharak produces ~48% of the Xha'Ruun Union's GDP. Key industries: thorium and iron mining (Khar-Tor ridge), agriculture (Central Plain), high technology (Khar-Vexar), science and education. The continent houses 3 of the 12 guild headquarters.
13.3 Rhuval — Southern Continent
PROFILE: Continent Rhuval
Parameter Value Area 42.249 million km² Location Mainly in the Southern Hemisphere Population ~0.9 billion (32% of planet) Largest city Ven-Khal (12.4 million) Highest point Mt. Moraat (7,915 sha) Largest river Thash-Ven (776 mo) Climate Tropical — Subpolar Flora endemics ~18%
Rhuval (from the root rhuun — "people", "community") is the second-largest continent, stretching from north to south. Due to its meridional orientation, it covers a vast range of climate zones: from tropical jungles in the north to glaciers in the south.
13.3.1 Relief and Geology
Rhuval formed as a result of the breakup of the supercontinent Vaal-Kharak ~2.5 billion cycles ago. Its geology is younger and more active:
- Raal Plateau — central highlands (1,463–3,415 sha above sea level), formed by mafic intrusions of the prototectonic era. Contains the richest deposits of platinum, chromium, and manganese. → see [LOC-0053]
- Irkhen Mountain Chain — a volcanic ridge along the northern coast. Highest point — Mt. Moraat (7,915 sha). Volcanic activity is above the planetary average.
- Thash-Ven Valley — a fertile alluvial plain along the continent's largest river.
13.3.2 Climate
| Zone | Share of continent | Average T (°X) | Precipitation (mm/year) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tropical forests | 15% | 57.0…61.4 | 3,000–5,000 |
| Savannas and woodlands | 22% | 54.9…59.2 | 1,000–2,000 |
| Subtropics | 25% | 51.6…57.0 | 500–1,200 |
| Temperate zone | 23% | 47.3…52.6 | 400–800 |
| Subpolar | 15% | 42.4…47.3 | 200–500 |
13.3.3 Economic Significance
Rhuval is the industrial heart of the Union: ~35% of GDP. Key industries: mining (Pt, Au, Ag, Cr), heavy industry, petrochemicals. The continent houses the largest industrial centers and ports.
Rhuval is also known for its military tradition — here are the main defensive structures and military academies.
IMPORTANT
Rhuval is the only continent with active volcanism that poses a threat to populated areas. The last major eruption (Irkhen chain, +3,890 Y.E.) led to the temporary evacuation of 2 million people. The volcano monitoring system on Rhuval is the most advanced on the planet.
13.4 Vexar — Eastern Continent
PROFILE: Continent Vexar
Parameter Value Area 37.555 million km² Location Mainly in the Southern Hemisphere Population ~0.5 billion (18% of planet) Largest city Shan-En (7.8 million) Highest point Mt. Sharrus (7,451 sha) Largest river Sharrus (638 mo) Climate Subtropical — Subpolar Flora endemics ~31%
Vexar (from the root vex- — "to give", "to create") is the smallest of the three continents, the most geographically and culturally isolated. Separated from Rhuval by the Ven-Khal Strait (width 85 mo at its narrowest point).
13.4.1 Isolation and Endemism
Vexar separated from Rhuval ~1.0 billion cycles ago and has since developed in isolation. This led to:
- 31% endemic plant species — compared to 12% on Kharak and 18% on Rhuval
- A unique forest ecosystem dominated by silicon-enriched plant forms
- The absence of large terrestrial predators (the ecological niche is occupied by small pack species)
Vexar has no analogue among Théxar's continents in terms of endemism — 31% unique plant species with complete isolation on a continental scale.
13.4.2 Cultural Specificity
Vexar's isolation shaped a unique cultural tradition:
- The philosophical school of the "Third Way" (independence from Kharak's guilds)
- Its own architectural tradition (use of local black basalt)
- A developed system of nature reserves — 15% of the territory declared "Silence Zones" (→ see [Law of Silence], Law of Accord)
13.4.3 Economic Significance
Vexar produces ~15% of GDP. Key industries: metals (Ti, Mn, Cr, Co), biopharmaceuticals, quantum computing, tourism. The continent is known for its research institutes and biotechnology laboratories.
13.5 Island Territories
The total area of Théxar's islands is ~9.389 million km² (~6% of land). Largest archipelagos:
TABLE 13.2: Largest islands of Théxar
Island / Archipelago Belongs to Type Feature Khal-Tor Kharak Volcanic Active volcano, fertile soils Sha-Enn Rhuval Continental Largest island of Rhuval, resorts Serrin-Ur Vexar Continental Nature reserve, access limited to scientific expeditions Irkhen (arch.) Disputed Coral-volcanic 24 islands, cultural crossroads Vel-Koss Kharak Coral Atoll, marine reserve Thash-Mor Rhuval Sedimentary Agriculture Khar-Ven Vexar Volcanic Biological station
The Irkhen Archipelago deserves special mention as a zone of cultural exchange and historical conflict between Kharak and Rhuval. Located in the Irkhen Sea between the two continents, the archipelago has served for millennia as a bridge — cultural, trade, and military. Each of the 24 inhabited islands of the archipelago has its own cultural tradition, synthesizing elements of both mainland civilizations.
Théxar's satellites — Serrin and Thel — are also formally territories of the Union, but belong not to the continents, but to extraplanetary holdings. → see [Ch.03, "Satellites"]
13.6 Ecological Zones
Axial tilt affects seasonality. Ecosystem diversity also depends on elevation, terrain, currents and geothermal heat.
- Different elevations above sea level — from coastal lowlands to mountains above 8,537 sha
- Rain shadow of mountain ranges — the Shan Desert formed by the rain shadow of Khar-Tor
- Ocean currents — the warm Khar-Vex current along Kharak's western coast, the cold Thel current along the eastern coast
- Geothermal oases — on Rhuval's volcanic plateaus
Ecological zones by height
